Sanctuary Items
Some of the items in our beautiful sanctuary were gifted, some are on loan, and others were purchased. Each is special.
Gifts
Baptismal Font, Cross, and Tabernacle
When Holy Trinity Church in Shannonville, Ontario, was closed in 2007, we were blessed with the gifts of a limestone baptismal font, a brass and silver processional cross, and a wooden tabernacle (used for storing reserved sacraments of bread and wine).
Anna Haslbauer, Vanna Jean Wood, and other All Angels parishioners met the Rev. Bradley D. Smith of the Diocese of Ontario, at St. George’s College in Jerusalem in 2006. When Anna learned the following year that Holy Trinity Church was to be closed, she began working on acquiring items. In the letter of transfer, Brad wrote that the gift of furnishings was a gesture of friendship between two churches, and that he was grateful the furnishings will continue giving glory to God through their use in worship.
Nathan Brinklow transported the furnishings from Ontario to Eatonton. Nathan, Jim Wagner, Father John Keeler, Bob Ritchason, and Jim Marshall installed the font. Nathan, who is a designer of church paraments (altar linens, hangings, etc.) and clergy vestments, sewed our green paraments.
Paschal Candle
The permanent Paschal Candle was given to the Glory of God and in memory of Jack Taylor and in honor of Martha Taylor Ray by Gayle Ray, Suzan Ray Gordon, and Lindsey Ray Hallman.
It was lit for the first time at the Great Easter Vigil on April 7, 2012 and brought into the sanctuary by the Rev. John D. Keeler. It is a symbol of the Risen Christ and the Light he brought into the world.
Diffuser and Sanctuary Lamp
Gaytha and Aubrey Harris provided us with an oil diffuser to provide scent in the sanctuary (incense would overpower our small church).
Gaytha also provided us with a candle to use as our sanctuary lamp. A sanctuary lamp, which is usually red, is placed on or above the tabernacle and is lit when blessed sacraments are within the tabernacle.
On Loan
Altar Angels
A pair of circa 1810 gilded carved wooden angels were placed on loan by a supporter and flank the altar.
Purchases
Stained-Glass Windows
Antique stained-glass windows, originally installed in 1904 and 1905 in the sanctuary of the Second Street Methodist Church in Macon, Georgia, which was razed in 1999, were purchased by All Angels in 1999 and installed in the sanctuary.
The large Communion Chalice and Grapes altar window and the Cross and Crown and Ruby Cross windows were installed in 1999 and 2000. Seven matching companion windows were restored and installed in 2004. The names of the 1904 donors as well as the donors to All Angels were placed on plaques with each window.
